SMETANA The Moldau
From the Danube to the Moldau offers a symphonic journey along the great rivers of classical music. The program opens with Johann Strauss Jr.’s iconic On the Beautiful Blue Danube, one of the most beloved waltzes of all time, and closes with Smetana’s The Moldau, a sweeping and lyrical tribute to the Czech river’s course. In between, Duke Ellington’s The River adds a jazz-infused ballet score that blends classical structure with swing-era flair. Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20, composed in Vienna along the Danube, ties the program to the landscapes and spirit that inspired these timeless works. Theatre doors open at 6:15pm, and ConcerTalk begins at 6:25pm. ConcerTalks provide background on the composers, their time, and a deeper dive into each piece on the program.
